Perfecting Your Pout

Whether we like it or not, we are living in the selfie age, and if we want to look glam in those images we upload, then we need to perfect our pouts, after all, it is the pout that makes the picture. It’s also fair to say that the perfect lipstick look starts with the perfect lips and that means that, if you want your lips to look good (whether you’re on camera or not) you need to give them plenty of attention.

When your lips are well-loved, they will be plumper, smoother and more beautiful than ever; if you neglect them, it will show in a pout that is thin, cracked and with lipstick that is less than perfect.

So, how exactly do you show your lips some love?

Stay Hydrated
This is absolutely vital if you want to have plump, luscious lips that make it look like you’ve had some pretty good lip fillers even if you haven’t. Why? Because dehydration is bad for your lips and your skin in general. If you don’t drink enough water, your lips and face will look less plump and healthy, and your pout will suffer as a result, So, carry a bottle with you everywhere you go and never let yourself get dehydrated.

Don’t Lick Them
If you’re a lip-licker, you might want to have a rethink because, although most of us don’t give it a second thought, constantly licking our lips can actually break down the outer layer of skin, leading to lips that are chapped and painful. Oh, it’ll really mess up your lipstick too!

Apply Lip Balm Liberally

If you aren’t using lip balm, then you aren’t loving your lips, and your pout won’t be nearly as perfect as you want it to be.ideally, you want to not only apply lip balm at least before you’re going outside, but you also want to choose a balm that will have a decent hydrating effect. So, balms that contain things like shea butter and coconut oil are ideal. Oh, you’ll also want to choose a balm with SPF protection so that the sun doesn’t give your lovely lips and unattractive ‘puckered’ look.

Scrub Them
You probably exfoliate your skin, but does that extend to your lips? If not, don’t be surprised if those shots of you pouting on those dating sites are filled with dead skin cells and lips that are really chapped. The lips are made up of skin too (obviously) which means they need to be exfoliated just like the rest of your face. Of course, you need to be a bit gentler with your lips, so try making a DIY exfoliant by mixing a little olive oil with a small amount of brown sugar and gently rubbing it on your lips once a week.

Use a Moisturising Lipstick

There’s no denying that matte lipsticks can look amazing, but if you’re going for a full-on look where you have to use a lot, they can suck the moisture out of your lips and make them look thinner than they really are. So, for the most part, stick to moisturising lipstick.

When you take the steps mentioned above, you create lips that are plump and primed for perfect lipstick application, all but ensuring that your pout is perfect.

  1. It is very true, I do love matte lipsticks and matte liquid lipsticks but they do dry out my lips. I always have chapped thirsty lips so I try and make sure I scrub them as much as possible to get rid of the dead skin cells!

  8. I need to add this to my daily makeup routine to get that perfect pout. I always tend to have a lip balm with me, but I personally drool over the matte lipsticks which eventually dry my lips.

  9. I love this pout ready perfection post. Our lips are one of the most delicate parts of our bodies and we should always keep them protected and hydrated.

  10. Licking the lips can be so bad to the point of cracking-up the lips especially when it's hot and one is not keeping hydrated thus it should be a no-no as you say. Anyway, lip balm really works for me especially since my lips usually dry up too soon.

  12. Really great tips. I also take a lot of care with my lips and moisturise them regularly. Living in a dry country, they can get chapped very easily. I love Nivea products for that.

  13. That is funny that we do all sorts of things to protect our face but far too often we forget the lips. I know that I try not to lick my lips but lip balm does help so much.

  15. I just moved to Flagstaff, Arizona and am not used to the weather— it’s SO dry. Especially my lips! I really appreciated your tips, and will be trying them, like extra moisturizing, as well as exfoliating. I also have a lip mask I was thinking of trying. Great suggestions!

  16. I hate having chapped lips, in fact I always carry with me a lip balm. It's true that hydration has a lot to do with the dryness of your lips and skin in general.
    Thanks for all your tips!
