Our Wedding Venue

I could scream with excitement right now. For so long we've talked about getting married and made some plans but things are really starting to come together now. The registrar is booked to attend and conduct our ceremony on 19th October 2019.

We've booked our venue and couldn't be happier. We knew from the minute we got engaged that we didn't want anything huge or pretentious. We promised we wouldn't get into debt or struggle to save to pay for something but of course we still wanted something beautiful. I began searching and came across
The Caledonian Hotel, Jesmond. It's a chain hotel located in the heart of Newcastle Upon Tyne, or the ''posh end'' as some would say.

I booked an appointment to visit as I'd never been before, I had only ever driven past. When I arrived I fell in love with everything. It's so welcoming and the d├ęcor is lovely and modern, the staff were all friendly and helpful and it had such a relaxed atmosphere. I had a look around the rooms and loved everything, I made another appointment to go back with my other half to show him before we made any decisions.

We decided to wait until they had a wedding open day, that way we would get to see the rooms and tables set up as it would be on our special day. I took 2 of my bridesmaids, my groom, mum, 2 pageboys and flower girl with me. They all loved it too.

There's the large room which is light and airy and has a secret escape, there's a bar leading into another function room and then there's the ceremony room. The bridal suite and other bedrooms are on the ground floor, upstairs there's over 50 single and double rooms and there's also a bar and bistro attached, Billabong which does the best pizza's ever.

The secret escape is the thing that sold it for me. You open a door from the main function room and you're in the most beautiful little garden, known as the secret garden. It's decked out and has heaters, tables, chairs, flowered archways for photographs and the most beautiful plans and flowers that change from season to season. The table and chairs are decorated with comfortable and modern accessories and it's got such a cosy feel. I think it's great for smokers or guests who just want a little bit of peace. It's solely for the wedding guests and other guests staying at the hotel do not have access to this. It's like our very own little hideaway for when we need a break. It's very secure and private too which will great for the children attending our wedding, they can run about and let some steam off without being told to be careful or sit down.

The bedrooms are very spacious and well equipped with everything you need and more. They're very comfortable and being situated in such a prime location, it makes it a very sought after hotel with everything within close proximity. I obviously had to take an obligatory hotel selfie in the room I'll be sleeping in on my first night as a Mrs.

I love the different ways the tables were set up, there's so much choice of accessories, colours and centrepieces. Everything is done in house which makes things much easier when planning and the dedicated wedding team are so helpful and have years of experience, I know we're in safe hands.

The hotel offer lots of different packages for various events but we've decided to have something more bespoke. I won't give too much away as I know some of our guests will read this! But we're so happy with our choice and can't wait to get stuck into the planning.

They have lots of exciting events on this year for Valentine's DayMothers Day, Easter and even New Year. Their parties are always very popular and booking is strongly recommended. They cater for adults and children and have various fun filled days planned for 2018. Check out their
website and follow them on Facebook and Instagram for more updates.

Things to do in Jesmond before heading back to the
Caledonian Hotel for an overnight stay:

Jemond Dene for a nature trial and Pets Corner
Visit

Visit
City Retreat for a pamper day

I'd love to know any tips you have on planning a wedding, I think I'm going to need them!

From the future Mrs Wright, a very excited bride to be.

  19. Honestly, I don't know that I have any tips for a wedding. The only thing I can say is just try to appreciate the day and the reason you are there. Because no wedding goes out exactly as planned. Something always happens. Someone cancels at the last minute or some scheduling goes awry. If you remember you are connecting to the love of your life who you are happy to join in a future with, everything else will seem less important.
